Dear Friend, I read through your experience in Juba Teaching Hospital and was really touched by your real stories. I am sure you know how the staff feel here in these tough conditions, no salaries, hangovers of the war trauma, etc, etc. I think I should commend you for letting the world know about Juba and about Southern Sudan. You have put it on the map of the world. Keep up the good work. God bless.
I first heard about Juba Teaching Hospital last Friday when my key note speaker, an aid practitioner from the International Red Cross mentioned it as part of an introduction to our Global Health module. He spoke of the hospital in such high regard and recommended the students to visit if we ever got the opportunity. Inspired by his words I sought out as much information as possible regarding the hospital (your blog by far being the most insightful and entertaining of all sources) and I must say that it's story and the link that it has established to St.Mary's Hospital in the Isle of Wight is remarkable. I would love the opportunity to undertake an elective at the hospital this summer and I was wondering if you could possibly point me in the right direction as to who would be the most appropriate person to contact.

James and David are junior doctors who graduated from Southampton, UK in 2006 and for the past two years have been working in St Mary’s Hospital, Isle of Wight.
We’ve been involved with the conception of the Juba link from the beginning and are excited by the opportunity to be the first medics to work in Juba from the project.
Our main objectives from this 4 month trip are:
To establish and secure the ongoing St Mary’s link in Juba by identifying and ironing out any of the logistic difficulties associated with living and working in the Southern Sudan
To provide extra medical help for the doctors already in Juba Teaching Hospital, including involvement in ward work, teaching, clinical audit, m&ms, grand rounds and journal clubs
To assess the feasibility of meeting foundation programme requirements in a developing world context
